Peanut Butter Salmonella Outbreak

Massachusetts has not escaped the salmonella outbreak attributed to jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter, that has sickened hundreds of consumers. According to federal officials, lids of peanut jars produced by ConAgra Foods with a product code beginning "2111" may contain the contaminated peanut butter. While a majority of the people known to date to have gotten ill from the peanut butter have not been seriously affected, a hefty 20% required hospitalization.

While the illnesses began in August, the Center for Disease Control did not locate the source until a few days ago. Federal officials routinely inform consumers to throw away the jars of offending food, while the food companies tell consumers to send them in for refunds. If a person became ill enough to consider legal action, though, the jar should be saved, as it could be evidence in a lawsuit. Anyone who saves a jar of contaminated food for potential evidence must make absolutely sure that it cannot be gotten by children and that neither they or anyone else, eat the contents!

If you or a family member fell ill after consuming Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter, we encourage you to contact InjuryBoard's Peanut Butter Salmonella Recall hotline by calling 1-800-593-5446
