This Monday, July 17, 2006, Ken Suggs, ATLA President, officers, the ATLA Board of Governors and ATLA membership will vote on whether to change the name of ATLA. ATLA, an organization in which I have actively participated for nearly a decade, is a very influential with members of Congress and the Judiciary. For years and from behind the scenes, ATLA has fought for people's rights. The proposal...

...seeks to provide a name with which those people may identify. The current name identifying "trial lawyers" does not really explain the work of ATLA. Many consumers don't even know what being a "trial lawyer" involves.

If approved, the name will change to the American Association for Justice. Justice, on the other hand, is something we all crave in our lives and is a concept with which Americans may easily identify. It also fairly represents to work of the association. Let's hope the membership agrees and votes to change the name of this sixty year old and nearly 60,000 member organization--the largest of its type in the world.
